Alto3 Bonarda Reserva 2007 is made from organically grown grapes (USDA certified) from Catamarca Argentina and answers the question: "Who spilled their espresso on my raw steak?" Catamarca is a province located in the northwest of Argentina. Bonarda is also known as Charbono, ripens late and is used to make wines of great substance. It often is blended with Malbec in Argentina. Jennifer, The Savvy Sommelier, evokes some rich visuals as she smells this wine: sitting seaside, the tide has gown out, exposing beds of sea shells and kelp; meanwhile she sips from a steaming cup of espresso with a licorice stick in it, while a open bottle of vodka sits nearby. Don't know about all that but there is definitely a meaty, iron-rich quality to the nose along with a distinct roasted coffee aroma. On the palate, the wine is not as complex as the nose. It is juicy with firm tannins and altogether straightforward. Would pair nicely with a steak. 86 points.
