Emiliana Vineyards Eco-Balance 2008 is a blend of Carménère (85%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (15%). The fruit is from sustainably farmed vineyards in the Colchagua Valley in Chile. Carménère is often mistaken for Merlot due to similar vine leaves and grapes. It originated in France, where it was used for blending in Bordeaux. Somewhat orphaned it has found a home in Chile. This wine has a very interesting nose: juicy boysenberry, mint, spice, cinnamon, cocoa with oaky overtones. It delivers on the palate, with some tart bitterness and a fairly short finish. Straightforward but good value for the $’s. Would pair nicely with a weeknight meat dish. 86 points.
